Camponotus Consobrinus – Banded Sugar Ants- Intermediate
UK SHIPPING ONLY
Banded sugar ants are both large and striking. They are widespread and well known across Australia.
Consobrinus are nocturnal, they maintain aphid farms during the night when the diurnal custodians are tucked up in their nests. This means red filters would be best but if you are a night owl like us, you will see plenty of action throughout the night while you do some late night work or gaming.
This species is fascinating and aggressive when disturbed, they have an interesting behaviour of tandem running. When they recruit for a food source they literally follow their leader in small groups to the food. Close, in a line and almost touching. A nice outworld would display this behaviour readily.
As is this species is not already interesting enough, they are also polymorphic and will impress you with a stunning major caste.
Consobrinus are a robust and hardy species which will reward you with an amazing trophy species for your collection.
