Meet Camponotus largiceps: Large-Headed Chinese Carpenter Ant!

Why Camponotus largiceps?

Camponotus largiceps is a polymorphic Chinese carpenter ant described by Wu and Wang (1989) from Hunan and Anhui. Shiny dark queens and brown-to-black workers with a broad head profile make a neat intermediate Asian Camponotus for keepers who can offer a mild cool winter rest.

South China forests and meadows

AntWiki lists the species from China only (type localities in Hunan and Anhui). Trade sheets add Henan and describe subtropical forest, meadows and cultivated ground, with soil nesting. Published field biology remains thin compared with better-known carpenters.

Ready for a Chinese carpenter?

Published husbandry is limited, so keep careful notes. Warm active season, sugars and protein, then a mild cool rest, mirror what successful keepers report for this scarce species.
